The camera features bright visible light (white light) LEDs for illumination in low light and dark situations. These can be set to turn on automatically if the light detected is insufficient, set to turn on in *all* cases (at the expense of battery life) or set to never turn on at all.
The camera also adjusts the video sensor automatically for low light conditions. In dark situations there may be a period of noticeable light adjustment in the recorded video as the sensor adjusts -- we start recording as fast as possible after a motion trigger, which doesn't always give the video light compensation enough time to respond perfectly.
The passive infrared motion detector works regardless of visible light so it will still detect motion in a dark room.
